Polaris Networks Announces EPC Global Compliant Reader Management (RM) Certification Test Tools

Boston, MA - March 20, 2007

Polaris Networks, a leading provider of Wireless Protocol Software Conformance test systems and an active member of the EPCglobal (a part of GS1), announced today that its RFID Reader Management (RM) Protocol Tester is now generally available to the RFID solution providers. The RFID Reader Management protocol tester has been selected for EPCglobal's Software Certification/Compliance testing program.

The RM Protocol Tester supports both XML and SNMP test scripts as per EPCglobal's Reader Management Conformance Requirements Specification. The tester can be licensed either for the SNMP or for XML testing. A combined version is also available.

As in other Polaris RFID testers, it supports not only the certification test suites (required for passing EPCglobal's certification program) but also a host of other predefined test scripts such as negative tests and optional feature tests. The tester also includes all the prototype test cases which were used by EPCglobal during its prototype event.

The tester can be used for pre testing the RM implementation before approaching EPCglobal for certification. This way a vendor can make sure that an implementation will pass all the Mandatory Tests required for certification program. Additionally, the tester can be used by the product assurance group for regression testing and to recreate a specific problem reported from the field.

The platform's versatile architecture allows vendors to develop their own customized test scripts for their own proprietary protocols also. Customers can extend the test suites by writing new tests to test their vendor extension features.

As more and more companies are deploying RFID readers to manage their supply chain, they need an ability to manage that network of readers and need to know the health of the network. Also, the chance is very high that all the components are not coming from the same vendor any more. And this mandates that the components be compliant with the EPCglobal standards for both interoperability and industry acceptance.. This compliance will help them differentiate their product to give a competitive edge. -said Vinay Gupta, CTO of Polaris Networks.

The Packet Tester's ability to develop new tests and recreate problems reported from the field will help the support engineers fix and test the problems much more quickly.
- said Soumya Kanti Roy Chowdhury, the program head for RFID development at Polaris Networks.
